While the Power Rangers cast, crew, and owners of the franchise have changed many times over nearly three decades, the only thing that has remained true since its inception is that they are colorful. With 30 years and over 300 Rangers, the show's color scheme has changed with time, with some seasons including upwards of 8 colors on a single team.

Featuring a total of 11 colors, the Power Rangers are incredibly diverse in terms of their heroes, and their villains. All Power Rangers teams up to the end of Dino Fury are considered for total Ranger counts, including Hyperforce, various comic teams, Meower Rangers, and even Lord Drakkon’s Sentry Rangers. They all have connections to the Morphin Grid.

The franchise has had rangers come in 12 different colors through almost 30 generations, some more iconic than others. We updated this list with examples of the best characters depending on their Power Ranger colors.

11.There Are Only 5 Orange Rangers

First Appearance: Power Rangers S.P.D. (2005)

The least used color in the franchise, Orange, is a special class of Ranger since it has technically only been featured on a single team. The Solar Rangers from the “Beyond the Grid” event are the only team that used Ranger in the form of Emi, the Orange Solar Ranger.

• Kat Manx (Power Rangers S.P.D.)
• Eugene Skullovitch ("Unlockly Heroes" in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers 2016 Annual)
• Remi ("Beyond the Grid" in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers)

The other Orange Rangers include the comic version of Skull as the Mighty Morphin Orange Ranger and Boom and Kat as the S.P.D. Orange and S.P.D. Kat Rangers — though those forms only exist for one episode each. The final Orange Ranger is the Grid Battleforce Orange Ranger, created in collaboration with Hasbro and Make-A-Wish for Tyler Rinker.

10. 10 Purple Rangers Exist On The Sides Of Good And Evil

The various Purple Rangers have been split between good and evil, some being mentor-like figures and others being the main villain of their respective series. Notably, this color also has the most debate about its inclusions. Characters like the Gatekeepers of Mystic Force are technically Rangers, but they don’t have a full morph sequence or spandex suit.

Also debated is the inclusion of beings like the popular Koragg, who are suited warriors just like the heroes. Fans can't help but wonder if they should count as a Ranger. However, since they are connected to the Morphin Grid, that is enough to make them Rangers.

9. Silver Has 13 Rangers, But One Is Technically Gray

The Silver Ranger color is exclusively an Extra Ranger color, meaning they later join the team and often fit the “Sixth Ranger” role. The most prevalent Silver Ranger in Power Rangers history is the Titanium Ranger of Lightspeed Rescue, as that was the first Power Rangers exclusive Ranger in the franchise.

Notably, one Ranger toes the line between being their own color and being a Silver Ranger, the Graphite Ranger from Dino Charge, but ultimately falls into the Silver category. Adding to the count of Silver Rangers is the under-discussed Time Force Silver Ranger, who wasn’t introduced until Power Rangers Hyperforce.

8. Gold Is Filled With 13 Extra Rangers

Inspiring the earliest “who is under the helmet” storylines that would become common in the franchise, Gold Rangers have been an infrequent yet important group of Rangers. Starting with the first Gold Rangers, Trey of Triforia and Jason, the Gold Rangers have been seen as powerful additions to the group.

In addition to being Rangers, many of the Gold wearers have been outsiders within their respective groups, such as Antonio, the Gold Samurai Ranger. To date, there has only been one evil Gold Ranger, the Omega Gold Death Ranger from the comics.

7. 14 White Rangers Have Taken Up The Mantle, Including Ryu From Street Fighter

One of the most powerful Ranger colors, White Rangers are typically strong fighters and represent a change in the tides of battle. The most famous White Ranger is Tommy Oliver, after being given the powers as a replacement for his Green Ranger powers. Tommy has had seven different suits in the franchise.

Since Tommy’s introduction, there have been several exceptional White Rangers, including Udonna in Mystic Force and Trent Mercer in Dino Thunder. In addition, three White Rangers introduced outside of the show have also been classed as extremely powerful; Lord Drakkon, an alternate version of Tommy; The Morphinaut, powered by direct Morphin Grid energy; and Ryu from Street Fighter as the Crimson Hawk Ranger.

6. Green Jumps Up The Ranger Ranks With 32 Rangers

First Appearance: First Season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (1993)

Although the first Green Ranger was originally evil, most of the Rangers wearing the color have been heroes. As future Sentai series was adapted, Green and Black were often swapped with series featuring one or the other until Dino Charge had both as core team Rangers. Even now, Green Rangers are often fan favorites.

When the Green Ranger is added on later in a season, they tend to be the strongest of the team, including Cameron Watanabe, the Green Samurai Ranger. The color carries powerful villain energy as well. Green Shredder Ranger and Psycho Green are some of the strongest villains in the franchise. As seen with JJ Oliver’s many Ranger Forms, Green Rangers can also be generational.

5. Black Is Boosted To 35 With Powerful Rangers Like Adam Park

One of the original five Ranger Colors, and the first to be abandoned, Black Rangers have often been the wildcard members of the group. From Zach and Adam’s turns on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers to the evil Rangers like Time Force Black and the Black Lion Warrior, each Black Ranger has received major storylines that fans love.

Only a few Black Rangers have been considered a focal point, including RPM’s Ranger Operator Series Black Dylan and the Black Dino Ranger Tommy Oliver. Unlike other Ranger colors, Black Rangers rarely take up a leadership role, although Adam Park does during the “Once A Ranger” 15th Anniversary crossover.

4. Pink Has 36 Rangers, But Only One Is Male

Pink Rangers are one of the most compelling Ranger colors due to their inherent femininity within the Power Rangers universe. Only one Pink Ranger is male, the 1969 Team’s Daniel O’Halloran. The powerful women behind the Pink Ranger helmet often have incredible stories, with several emerging as leaders.

Also notable, the Pink Ranger of Lost Galaxy was the first Ranger to die on-screen and be replaced, and the replacement was the previous season’s major antagonist. Few Ranger colors have had important storylines like this that have affected fans for decades.

3. 43 Yellow Rangers Have Been Leaders And Powerhouses

The third most used Ranger color, featuring on every team until Dino Charge, Yellow Rangers are incredibly diverse in their backgrounds and roles. For example, the Time Force and Hyperforce Yellow Rangers are bruiser-type Rangers, whereas the Ninja Storm Yellow Wind Ranger is a comic book geek.

Only one Yellow Ranger has been a leader of their respective team, Taylor Earhart, the Wild Force Yellow Ranger. Even though she was quickly replaced by the incoming Red Ranger, Cole Evans, Taylor remains one of the best Yellow rangers ever. The Yellow Emissary, one of the Morphin Grid's protectors, was their group's last surviving member until the Blue Emissary was reborn.

2. 56 Blue Rangers Filled Every Single Power Rangers Team With Extras

Almost always the second in command and featured on every team, Blue Rangers are also often seen as talented and intellectual. Billy Cranston is the most famous Blue Ranger, serving as the only Mighty Morphin Blue while the rest of the cast swapped over the three seasons.

The single most used and revisited Rangers, Red Rangers, are the leaders and often the most influential members of their teams. This strength is thanks to the extra training they receive as leaders and typically exclusive power-ups like Battlizers and armor modifications introduced in In Space.

As the leaders of their respective teams, Red Rangers are also often the last Rangers standing during battle, proving their place as protectors of Earth.
